Back-to-School Tips

Getting your family prepared to head back to school, can be difficult especially after a long, fun-filled summer. Here are a few of our favorite Back to School Tips to help you along the way.

1. Back-to-School Supplies Checklist - Backpack? Check. Pencils? Check. Safety scissors? Not Yet. Use the same checklist each time you head out to grab supplies, to keep track of what you have already purchased and the things you still need to. These are also handy if you have more than one child. Simply print 2, 3, 4 list and add their name to the top.

2. Buying new clothes each school year can be incredibly difficult, especially when you have more than one child to dress, or picky clothes-wearers. You can help to combat some of this by altering clothing yourself at home. Cut the bottoms off of shirts with stains on them and sew them onto the hemline of other shirts to create a long and layered look. Stretch a piece of elastic and sew it at the empire-waist-line mark to create a "fit" look on a shirt that is too baggy. You can easily make-over an entire wardrobe by making a few simple changes to each piece.

3. Put a special folder in each child's backpack for all the papers that they would usually stuff in their locker. These are the papers that sometimes don't make it home from school because they don't have a "space" but are also the ones that moms usually need to see the most - like information on parking, new rates for school lunches, rules about hats, class photos day, and parent-teacher meetings.

4. Make lunches at home with your kids each night before bed. This will let them make a few choices, spend time with mom or dad, and teach them about the food pyramid. Good health (just like charity and good manners) starts at home. You'll save a few bucks and your fridge will stay leftover-free!
