Looking for the perfect anniversary gift?

Since I was young I have loved to read, and my favorite books have always been about magic, wizards, mythical creatures and all sorts of other fantastical ideas. When I was asked to review a YourNovel.com book, the Renaissance-themed novel was my obvious choice!

Disclosure: I was given a book from YourNovel.com for free in order to do my review, but please know that my words are completely my own. For more on my disclosure policy, please see the tab titled 'Let me disclose to you'.

one year anniversary gift
When I first visited the YourNovel.com website, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I had been briefly told about the idea of the site: You create a novel (a romance novel) featuring you and your loved one as the main characters, and when the book arrives, it's full of details that make it a unique and personal read.

After logging on to the site I was pleased to see so many book-options to choose from. There are stories ranging anywhere from a pirate-filled treasure-hunt to an thrilling mystery-romance. I was tempted by several of the books, but finally chose A Ren Faire to Remember by Madhavi Krevat because it combined many of my favorite elements in it. (The timing couldn't have been better either because I received the book the week before the Ren Faire that takes place around here!) The books come in 'Wild' or 'Mild' versions for the romantic sections so that you can choose what you are most comfortable with.

I was happy to see that the company gives options not only for hard or soft cover, but also for receiving the book in e-format. Lots of people use their e-readers these days not only because of how convenient they are, but because of how much more privacy an e-reader can provide. So if you don't want your mother-in-law to come over and accidentally browse through to a love-scene in your book, the e-reader version might be for you! (P.S. Dear Mother-in-Law of mine: If you happen to see that book lying about somewhere... don't read it!)

paper anniversary giftThe prices for the books are really not that bad. Is it more expensive than buying a cheapy romance novel off of Amazon? Of course it is. But those cheapy romance novels aren't exactly the sort of thing that you give to your spouse for a special occasion. The books from YourNovel.com make great keepsakes, and because of all the details you are able to put in (hair color, names, favorite songs, etc.), they make for quite an interesting read. If you really want to make it special, you can even customize the cover art or include a specially-written page containing something like a proposal or poem.

As for the book itself, it was just as cheesy as I thought it would be in certain parts (like repeatedly telling my husband how sexy he smells in his particular cologne) but the book itself was far more exciting than I ever expected. I was actually engrossed in the book to the point that I was wishing for a sequel! I wanted to see what happened to other characters afterwards and I was a little sad that our 'quest' in the book ended so soon. It took me a few hours to read through the near-200 pages, but I honestly didn't want to put it down, so it seems like the time flew right by.

Perhaps the best part about this book though is that it did its job. I was entertained by a book that talked about my husband and I together on an adventure (something I like to daydream about anyhow) and I was reminded of how much I love to spend time with him. As an added bonus, he says he wants to read it next!! I don't think I've ever seen my husband read anything other than the news articles he loves to peruse online. Certainly I've never seen him read a novel! I am beyond impressed that he could flip through a few pages and be interested enough in it that he now wants to read the book. Apparently these make great gifts for women and men!

Lastly, I couldn't help but be a little sad that I didn't discover these books a long time ago because one of these would have made a perfect one-year anniversary gift since the one-year mark is considered the 'paper' anniversary. And since books are made of paper, how much more romantic can you get than a book celebrating your love together?!

Curious about getting one of these books for yourself or your sweetheart? You can visit YourNovel.com for more information, or check them out in social media on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube.
